How embarrassing that I haven’t updated this page since RULES has been out. Let’s just acknowledge that my ability to keep up my website isn’t strong, never has been strong, and seriously stresses me out besides. I know I’m supposed to be a better author than this. : ( With that acknowledged, I’m going to continue to do an inadequate job of keeping my website updated. : )
As always, the elevator pitch for RULES FOR CAMOUFLAGE remains the same: neurodivergent kids, the adults who fight them, and the adults who fight with them. And an octopus. : )
RULES has been wandering in the world for 1.65 years now, and it’s done some things! I’m always happy when books reach readers, of course, since that’s their main goal, but I’m also honored when a book is recognized by “official” book people who aren’t just readers. You can read the original starred review here, but RULES was a Kirkus Best YA Book of 2024. It was also a Cybils finalist for 2024, and a Children’s Book Council Teacher Favorite in 2025. Especially an honor, because of all the FREAKING TALENT IN MY STATE, it was also a Minnesota Book Award YA finalist for 2025.
Another big surprise: RULES was named to the 2026 Tayshas list in Texas (this honor is extra surprising to me because I’ve had at least three books banned in Texas). The goal of the Tayshas list is to help students bond over books and become lifelong readers–some really excellent things to encourage, and what an honor that RULES is included in that goal!
You can, of course, acquire RULES at your favorite retailer, and online, I’d suggest purchasing it here. And don’t forget the audiobook (yaaaaaay!)!
